LOS ANGELES: US newspaper publisher Tribune Company has ousted the editor of one of its flagship titles, the Los Angeles Times. Dean Baquet was forced to resign after he consistently refused to cut jobs at the paper.

The sluggish advertising market and the exodus of revenues online has forced many publishers to trim costs. Tribune is currently mulling whether to sell the company as a whole or dispose of individual assets including the LA Times [WARC News: 03-Nov-06].

Baquet will be replaced by James O'Shea, managing editor of the Chicago Tribune.
