BELLEVUE, Washington: Cellphone operator T-Mobile USA and its parent Deutsche Telekom are to spend $2.7 billion (€2.14bn; £1.44bn) over the next two-and-a-half years to roll out the 3G network across the USA.

The announcement follows T-Mobile's successful $4.2bn bid for 120 licences in the Federal Communications Commission's spectrum auction last month.

The telco has more than doubled its spectrum capacity in the top 100 US markets enabling, it to offer a much broader range of wireless services including high speed mobile data.
