The US economy will expand sluggishly in the second half of 2002 after faltering in the second quarter, according to the latest report from the National Association of Business Economics.

In its quarterly survey, America’s biggest association of business economists found that demand slipped in Q2, leaving expected growth for the second half at a weak 2% to 3%.

Such caution about the next six months is also evident in the latest business confidence index from New York research group the Conference Board. This barometer fell from 66 in the first quarter to 61 in the second, with fewer respondents predicting improved conditions.
