SYDNEY: Australian TV network Seven will launch a new TiVo digital video recorder in July, announcing at the same time that it will not charge a subscription fee for its broadband-enabled service.
Seven is aiming to expand its DVR offering to include a range of premium services by the end of the year, with online TV content, interactive features, music and movie downloads and access to social networking sites among the possibilities.
It is hoping to launch the DVR prior to the Beijing Olympics, and has already inked licensing agreements with fellow broadcast networks Nine and Ten.
Seven's broadband unit Unwired – which is responsible for the sales, distribution and service delivery of the new service – is also close to signing deals to sell the new DVRs via six retailers, including Harvey Norman and Dick Smith Electronics.
