MOSCOW: A Russian tabloid newspaper that disappeared from the streets shortly after it published a story about Vladimir Putin's private life is to re-appear as a weekly title after the summer.
Moskovsky Korrespondent, owned by Noviye Media suspended publication in April after it ran a report that the ex-president was to wed former Olympic athlete Alina Kabayeva (24), now a state Duma deputy.
A furious Putin denied the allegations at a press conference in Sardinia with Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, himself no stranger to romantic entanglements played out in public.
The paper's management asserted at the time that the closure was the result of financial rather than political pressures.
However, Artyom Artyomov, director at the publishing company, now concedes the story may have played a part.
He insists, nonetheless: "The weekly version will be less expensive" and that in future "We will have objective and well-checked information".
