Britain’s state-owned postal operator Consignia – in the process of being renamed Royal Mail Group – has forged its first ever agreement to deliver post for a commercial rival.

The competitor in question is Deutsche Post, recently handed a licence to collect mail in the UK [WAMN: 30-Aug-02]. It will pay Royal Mail 21.9p ($0.34; €0.35) per letter to deliver post the following day and up to 16.3p for standard-class deliveries.
