LONDON: The Pearson Group – publisher of leading UK daily business title the Financial Times  – is set to launch a new magazine in China aimed at the country's wealthy business elite.

The title will reportedly be called Rui – the Chinese for intelligence – and will contain a mix of lifestyle and "wealth-management" editorial.

Azmar Sukandar, the FT's Asia-Pacific spokesman, said: "We are currently finalising details, including a launch date."

Pearson's deadline is thought to be before the Beijing Olympics in August. The company is currently waiting for approval from the Chinese authorities to market the title.

Rui is expected to be the first publication sold in China that is wholly-owned by a foreign organisation.

London-based Zhang Lifen, the chief editor of FTChinese.com is expected to oversee the new title, with the editorial team being based in Beijing and the magazine itself printed in Hong Kong.
