Nordic multimedia company Schibsted is re-structuring to replace its two business units with three geographical divisions.

The Oslo-headquartered firm's activities comprise newspapers and publishing, TV and film production, film rights, TV channels, internet and mobile services.

Under the new structure, its twin Newspapers & TV and Film & Publishing arms will become Norway, Sweden and International. The rationale for the move is the changing media climate, says Schibsted spokesman Hedenstad Jan.

He elaborates: "In an age of increasing media convergence, where online and mobile are just as integral to newspaper growth as print, it no longer makes sense to have an organisation based around platforms."

The changes will allow the company to expand into markets outside of Scandinavia.

Schibsted currently owns Aftenposten, the largest newspaper in Norway, 49.9% of Sweden's leading paper, Aftonbladet plus a 65% interest in TV production house Metronome Film & Television, a 32% stake in regional online portal Scandinavia Online and stakes in Baltic television channels such as Estonia's Kanal 2.
