VEVEY, Switzerland: The world's biggest food manufacturer, Nestlé, has posted a 15.8% climb in net profits to 10.65 billion Swiss francs ($9.8bn; €6.6bn; £4.9bn).

The firm, whose brands include Nescafé coffee and Purina petfoods, posted sales of SF107.55bn, a rise of 9.2% over the previous year.

Outgoing ceo Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, to be replaced by Paul Bulcke later in the year, said he expected continued global economic growth in 2008, especially in emerging markets, and that commodity price hikes would ease in the second half.
