NEW YORK: Effective June 1 2008 NBC Universal is to extend the existing ban on ads promoting unhealthy foods, from its Qubo children's programming block, to similar shows on the twenty-six local stations it co-owns with Telemundo Networks.

Qubo is a multiplatform offering of original child-oriented programming broadcast in English on NBC and Spanish on Telemundo.

Says Ibra Morales, president of Telemundo Stations Group: "Our recognition that obesity is a serious threat to Hispanic children's present and long-term health has been at the forefront of our community efforts for some time."

She, along with NBCU and ION Media Networks, which provides the three-hour block of kids shows on NBC and Telemundo, sit on a task force on childhood obesity created by two senators and several Federal Communication Commission commissioners.

Morales attributes the move in part to the task force.
