OAK BROOK, Illinois: The spinoff of the Chipotle chain coupled with record overseas sales helped McDonald's to more than double its fourth quarter profit.

The world's biggest fast-food firm reported earnings of $1.24 billion (€955m; £629m) in Q4, up year-on-year from $608.5 million. Revenue climbed 11% to $5.6bn from $5.01bn a year ago.

The company says it will continue its push into countries such as China, Japan and Russia when it opens 800 new restaurants this year.
