PARIS: France's biggest publisher, Lagardere, has inked an €865 million ($1.1bn; £584m) deal to buy Europe's largest football marketing and sports rights company Sportfive, which promotes the Rugby Six Nations Tournament and handles broadcasting rights for more than 250 soccer teams.

Lagardere, publisher of Elle magazine and the French edition of The Da Vinci Code, has been diversifying from its heritage in aerospace.
