Interpublic Group’s board of directors has appointed existing member Frank J Borelli to the newly created role of presiding director.

The agency giant said the move was “part of its ongoing efforts to adopt best practices in corporate governance”, following steps to increase the number of external directors on the board.

“The role of the presiding director,” chairman/ceo John Dooner explained, “is to serve as a means of ensuring optimal communication between the board and management, as well as more active participation by board members.”

Borelli has served on the Interpublic board since 1995. Previous posts include stints as chief financial officer at financial services firm Marsh & McLennan Companies and manufacturer Airco.
