NEW DELHI: A total of 10.42 million new mobile phone subscriptions were registered in India in October, lifting the country's total mobile user base to 326m, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India.
TRAI estimates that the improved October figures marked an increase on the 10.07m users added in September this year.
In all, the number of Indian mobile and fixed line subscribers now stands at 363.95m, though TRAI reports that fixed line subscriptions fell to 38.22m in Otcober from 38.35m in September.
Total "teledensity" – namely, the overall level of telecoms penetration – reached 32% at the end of October, up 1% on the previous month.
Statistics from the government body also show that the number of broadband subscriptions in India rose to 5 million at the end of October, compared with 4.9 million the previous month.
