LONDON: Senior UK television executive Dawn Airey is quitting her role at troubled commercial broadcasting giant ITV and is heading back to lead smaller rival Five.

Airey (pictured above) joined ITV less than a year ago as its managing director of global content. She will take on the role of Five's chairman/ceo.

She helped launch the channel in 1997 and headed it between 2000 and 2003. Since then she has also worked at BSkyB.

Five's incumbent chief, Jane Lighting, is understood to be leaving the RTL-owned broadcaster.
