Britain's largest commercial broadcaster ITV has embarked on a major joint venture with US-owned Yahoo! UK & Ireland, within which the latter will develop search facilities and paid listings on ITV's several websites.

Both parties indulged in the mutual backslapping that inevitably accompanies the inking of mutually lucrative deals.

Said Yahoo! Search head of business development Rob Jonas: "This agreement demonstrates the growing strength of our search technology, as well as our commitment to work with partners to deliver compelling search user experiences. This should be the first of what we hope will be many agreements with popular online properties."

And dutifully on cue, ITV Sales' online sales account manager Jeremy Rosenberg joined in the hosannas: "ITV is looking forward to building the partnership with Yahoo and to look at other opportunities," he said.
