US media group Hearst is buying Seventeen, the nation’s biggest-selling magazine in the fiercely competitive teenage girls sector.

Hearst, which owns CosmoGirl in the same sector, will pay $180 million (€164m; £113m) to Primedia for the title. The price is below the $200m Primedia had hoped for, and well down on the $500m offer made by Condé Nast in 1998.
