COLOGNE, Germany: The Ford Motor Company has beefed-up the management suite in its European region with the promotion of current marketing, sales and service vp Stephen Odell (pictured) to the role of chief operating officer.

He will be responsible for the automaker's European product development and manufacturing, reporting to the division's ceo, John Fleming.

Odell has previously worked at Ford's luxury Jaguar marque, now being sold to India's Tata Motor, and also at Japanese automaker Mazda, in which Ford holds a controlling interest.

Fanfares Fleming: "As we move into a more intensive phase of our global transformation, now is the right time to make more of Stephen's extensive operational experience around the world.

"Giving him operational responsibility for Ford of Europe will help us raise our game as we take a prominent role in developing new vehicles globally."

  • Odell will be replaced by Norwegian Ford veteran Ingvar Sviggum, appointed this week as vp marketing, sales and service for Ford of Europe.
