LONDON: The UK's sole cable operator NTL is about to bid farewell to executive vice-chairman Simon Duffy, whose contract is not being renewed.
NTL, US owned but which operates only in Britain, ousted Duffy from the ceo role at the end of 2005 in favour of Stephen Burch, erstwhile head of American number one cable company Comcast.
Duffy was sidelined as NTL moved towards its merger with nominal rival Telewest and its acquisition of Virgin Mobile [WARC News: 23-Feb-06]. His current role includes European and UK regulatory affairs and business development, but he is said to feel there is no longer any need for his services.
NTL recently made an unsuccessful move to acquire ailing UK commercial television broadcaster ITV, an ambition thwarted in spectacular fashion by satellite giant BSkyB [WARC News: 06-Dec-06].
