Europe's love affair with Japanese cars shows no signs of losing its ardour.

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association's latest figures reveal that nine major Japanese carmakers have increased their combined market share to 13.2% during the year to September .

Drivers are falling for subcompact models, such as Toyota's Yaris and Nissan Motors' Micra. The recently introduced new diesel engine version of Honda's midsize Accord has also won many admirers.

The next phase in the Nipponese auto industry's attempted conquest of Europe is the launch of a range of gas-guzzling SUVs plus a number of minivans, all currently on display at the Paris Motor Show.
