OAK BROOK, Illinois: McDonald's reports third-quarter earnings rose 15%, boosted by a comeback in its European restaurants and strong sales in the US.

Net income for the July-through-September period was $843.3 million (€668.9m; £448m), up from $735.4m, a year earlier. Revenue rose 10% to $5.88 billion from $5.33bn.

Says chairman Jim Skinner: "The entire McDonald's system is energized by our current momentum."
