European media group Emap has conquered the object of its desire, Scottish Radio Holdings.

Emap's latest takeover offer of £391 million ($712m; €587m) has been enough to sway SRH, following its rejection of a £375m bid at the beginning of this month.

The buy-up of SRH's 22 local commercial radio stations continues the consolidation trend in the industry, following the merger of Capital and GWR to form GCap.

Says Emap ceo Tom Moloney: "This is an important step in Emap's radio strategy, one that creates real value and leaves us well placed to make the digital step that will be so important in establishing leadership of UK commercial radio."

Emap will sell SRH's regional newspapers arm to publisher Johnston Press for £155m.
