ENGLEWOOD, Colorado: US satellite operator EchoStar is to launch a new TV service in Mexico, forming a joint venture with one of the country's leading media and telecoms firms, MVS Comunicaciones.

The new offering, Dish Mexico, will be available to consumers across the country in the next few months, and will provide a range of channels covering popular, childrens, news and sports topics.

MVS already operates a broad range of TV, radio, online and publishing holdings in Mexico, including the MASTV cable service, which offers around fifteen channels to subscribers.

Some analysts have suggested that EchoStar's entry into the Mexican market may have been encouraged by the slowing revenue growth reported by its sister company, Dish Networks, in the US.

Says Charlie Ergen, EchoStar's ceo/chairman: "The opportunity to partner with MVS for a variety of services creates an exciting opportunity for EchoStar as we enter the Mexican market.

"This joint venture between MVS and EchoStar makes it possible for a large sector of Mexico's growing population to receive a popular lineup of all digital television channels at an attractive price."
