A conservative think-tank whose former members include Federal Trade Commission chairman Timothy Muris yesterday released a report arguing against increased privacy regulation.

The Progress and Freedom Foundation claims there is “no evidence of consumer harm or market failure associated with commercial use of marketing and related information.” It also warned that merely enforcing privacy notices would “impede the development of potential new uses of the internet.”

Muris was a fellow of the Foundation until he took up his post at the FTC.
