CHICAGO: F David Radler (pictured), quondam Hollinger International director and Conrad Black's first lieutenant in the fallen media empire, on Monday received a 29-month jail sentence for his part in the $6 million (€4.18m; £2.97m) shareholder frauds he and his boss perpetrated.

In comparison with the seventy-eight months handed down to Black last week, Radler got off lightly - thanks to his betrayal of Black by turning federal evidence and principal witness for the prosecution.

Contrition oozed from every pore: "I'm sorry for what I've done," Radler (65) told the court.

Meantime, His Lordship remains free on bail of $21 million pending an appeal against his sentence.
