US cable titan Comcast has agreed to buy television network TechTV from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

America's leading cable-TV operator is thought to be paying Vulcan, Allen's investment vehicle, around $300 million (€248m; £165m) for the technology-focused network.

Comcast will combine the new acquisition with its own network G4, whose content is devoted to video games. The addition of TechTV will be a major boost to G4: the former is available in over 43 million US homes; the latter in just 15m.

The merged network, which will retain the G4 title, will be available in an estimated 44m households.
