The president of Coca-Cola GB, Charlotte Oades, is moving to head the company's European public relations operations.

The unexpected appointment will see her in a newly-created post with a remit to "develop the corporate brand and [Coke's] approach to corporate responsibility and engagement across Europe".

Avers Oades, whose new boss will be Coke's most senior European exec Dominique Reiniche: "I'm passionate about the opportunity to bring my business experience to bear in this new role, driving focus and action on corporate engagement and responsibility."

The company has struggled to overcome the reputation of its brands as contributing to the growing problem of childhood obesity. Nor has it been able to get a grip in Europe on the perceived 'healthier' sectors of the beverage market such as juices, energy drinks or water brands.
