British TV giants Carlton Communications and Granada are pooling their US production activities as part of their merger.

The duo – dominant shareholders in television network ITV – are combining their Carlton America, Granada Entertainment USA and Granada USA New York businesses to form a single entity: Granada America.

Between them, the three units generate annual revenues of £70 million ($117m; €102m), though the plan is to raise this total through reality programmes, dramas and TV movies.

"Our ambition is to expand," declared Simon Shaps, boss of ITV's new Granada Production division. "We have two complementary businesses in the United States, and we can now bring them together."
