Carlton Communications' strategy director Nick Markham is to coordinate the company's merger with fellow UK television broadcaster Granada.

Markham will become integration project director, reporting directly to Charles Allen, the Granada boss who will become chief executive of the merged firm (to be known as ITV plc).

The appointment may go some way to appeasing Carlton directors after a shareholder rebellion forced the company's chairman Michael Green to abandon his plans to take the chair at the combined group [WAMN: 23-Oct-03]. Green's ousting left Carlton with no executive representatives on ITV's main board.
