BELFAST: Northern Ireland-headquartered UTV Media has posted 2007 pre-tax profits of £17.7m ($35.9m; €23m), compared with a loss of £3.9m the previous year.

The group says revenues from its radio operations offset falling TV advertising sales. Total revenues rose two per cent last year to £115.6m.

Comments ceo John McCann: "UTV's continued success compared to our media peer group is extremely reassuring."

The company would become the UK's biggest listed radio station operator if the current number one, GCap Media, is taken private by Global Radio.
