ISLEWORTH, UK: Satellite services giant BSkyB is in talks with Italian broadband services provider Tiscali about buying its UK assets, estimated to be worth around £450 million ($713m; €559m). Sky is thought to be the only bidder left in the running after Carphone Warehouse withdrew from proceedings.
Tiscali has around 1.84 million broadband customers in the UK, and has been attempting to sell its operations in the country since February.
A statement from the Italian company simply reads: "Tiscali clarifies that it is currently holding talks with the BSkyB in relation to certain UK assets."
Should BSkyB's bid prove successful, it will become the third largest broadband provider in the UK with some 3.6m customers (compared with its current total of 1.79m), behind BT and Virgin Media.
Telecoms giant BT is thought to have turned down the chance to buy Tiscali, as has mobile network Vodafone.
