LONDON: The magazine publishing  unit of publicly-funded UK broadcaster BBC hopes to cash-in on the curiosity of US citizens about the world around them with the launch of a new stateside title.

BBC Knowledge Magazine will fill its 100 glossy pages with content from other titles in its stable such as BBC History Magazine and BBC Wildlife Magazine.

The new title is to publish six times a year, with the first issue appearing on US newsstands in August at a cover price of $5.99 (€3.87; £3.07).

Says publishing director Andy Benham: "While we are initially launching in America, where the concept researched very favourably, the magazine undoubtedly has global appeal.

"We are already looking at a number of exciting international licensing prospects."

A promotional mail campaign will back the magazine's US launch.

BBC Knowledge is already an established brand, as a television channel in Poland, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia. It is part of BBC Worldwide – the broadcaster's commercial arm.
