The Communications Agencies Federation – representing Britain's advertising, marketing communications and public relations agencies – has detected a new note of optimism among its members, according to its first Agency Barometer survey.

The majority of shops surveyed indicated they are more optimistic about the business climate for their own agency than three months ago, and that the new business market is now humming.

Among the indicators of agency sentiment ...

• Thirty-two per cent of respondents reported that communications budgets committed by clients had increased since they had been set.

• 12% of agencies reported that the new business market was 'very buoyant' – of those, 60% expect between 11% and 25% of gross income to come from new business this quarter.

• A further 56% indicated that it was' busy' – of those, 43% expect between 11% and 25% of gross income to come from new business this quarter.
