This slide presentation on app usage trends in the US reveals that all the major app categories (photography, social networking, finance, travel and ecommerce) doubled in size during 2011.
Reach, frequency and time spent are key metrics for marketers, with leading apps such as Facebook enjoying up to 75% reach and the average user interacting with apps for 45 minutes per day. Shopping via apps has increased significantly, with 25% of customers making purchases and 42% using them for discovery. Another major trend is looking up products while viewing TV ads, with 86% of smartphone users multi-tasking in this way....
