What qualities do people most admire in a leader?

Back in 2007 – a more innocent era that now seems a lifetime ago – I conducted a survey of the most admired leadership attributes. Top position went to 'listening'. People craved empathetic leadership. There was much talk of 'soft' values. Leadership was actually all about followership and being in touch with your followers was crucial to success.

At BritainThinks, we've just repeated a similar poll and found that, in tougher times, being a 'great communicator' (55%), being decisive (45%)...
