No less than three systems - Mediametrie, Nielsen/Soffres and Telemetric - offered means of measuring French viewer behaviour, and have been technically appraised by the joint industry body CESP. This paper describes the results - particularly illuminating because, with three contenders in the frame, the thinking behind many issues - methodology, survey populations, sample sizes, targets and sub-populations - may be realistically compared alongside reported audience levels. One major conclusion - the importance of finding harmonised European measurement standards and methods.
