Global FMCG Trends in 2009-2010: Legacy of the Downturn (Part 1)’ details the winners and losers in key fast moving consumer goods categories including packaged food, tobacco, alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, personal care, consumer health, tissue, and pet care.
These are influenced by consumer behaviour including trading down; changing demographics (e.g. aging populations); cocooning and regulation of items such as alcohol and tobacco. Packaged foods are the largest category, and items such as baby food and snacks showed growth. Other winners include: green tea, premium pet foods, economy lager, facial skin care, vitamins, kitchen towels, and cigars. Losers include: coffee, economy pet food, champagne, carbonated drinks, make-up and fragrances, cleaning products, and slimming aids....
