Single living: How atomisation - the rise of singles and one-person households - is affecting consumer purchasing habits

This report from Euromonitor International, an offshoot of its Strategy Briefings series, looks at single living, whether singles in shared accommodation or in one-person households.
Thare are various reasons for the growth in single living, including young people delaying marriage and children, a higher number of separations and divorce, an ageing population with more elderly people living alone. There are certain consumer characteristics of this group: they are mostly city dwellers, have a high discretionary income and enjoy socialising. Their numbers are expected to grow although governments may try to discourage this through occupancy taxes or the promotion of shared hosuing schemes....
