In late 2008, the Secretary General of the United Nations reached out to the global communications industry to ask for help rallying the people of the world to support a positive outcome at the critically important United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP15) in Copenhagen.

The challenge was more complex than mere awareness-raising. Twenty years of green campaigns had done a great job of showing the relevance of action on climate change to polar bears and tree frogs, and a very poor one of showing its relevance...
