The tobacco industry spends billions of dollars marketing their products. truth’s goal is to counteract these efforts by capturing teens’ attention and exposing the facts about the tobacco industry. In 2009, these teens were faced with one of the worst economies that they or their parents had known. Unemployment skyrocketed and the stock market was at a new low. With all of these other stressors in their lives, the negative health effects of smoking weren’t top of mind any more.
