INTRODUCTION: SUNDAY TRADING IN EUROPE

In several European countries, there has been a lively debate on shop opening regulations. This debate has also been followed by partial deregulation of shop opening regulations in many countries. For example, in England and Wales Sunday trading was legalised in 1994, and in Finland there was a partial deregulation of Sunday trading in 1997 (Kajalo, 1997b).
