In March 1996 the Pepsi-Cola Company unveiled nationally the largest consumer promotion in its history. Created with ad agency BBDO, this "Pepsi Stuff" campaign—the company's response to archrival Coca-Cola's mammoth advertising effort in conjunction with the 1996 Summer Olympics—was intended to increase Pepsi's sales volume across its beverage categories and to make the company's five-year-old ball-shaped logo more familiar to consumers. To broadcast its message, Pepsi saturated the media with television, radio, and print spots; ran outdoor ads; created tie-ins with Pepsi's Web site; and installed in-store displays in myriad supermarkets and...
