From 1973 to 1985 the American Broadcasting Corporation (ABD) network was home to Schoolhouse Rock, a series of animated musical shorts inserted between children's weekend television shows. Created in response to government regulations designed to promote educational children's programming, the three-minute segments taught complex lessons in multiplication, grammar, history, and science. To do so, Schoolhouse Rock relied on techniques borrowed from the worlds of advertising and entertainment: eye-catching visuals, jingle-style music, and humor.
