John Ford asked me to write an essay about reviewing. I was, and am, flattered by this request and I'm honoured to be given the opportunity to offer some viewpoints on what I consider to be an essential component of my life as a scholar. After over 20 years as an academic, I've learned that reviewing manuscripts for journals, conferences and other scholarly undertakings constitutes one of the most rewarding (though unrewarded) activities to which I devote my time and effort....
