There is no avoiding Rupert Murdoch. In the past month or so alone, his empire has been doing new deals in China, has bought a telecoms foothold in Russia and, most famously, has pulled out of a deal in Italy, having - on the verge of swallowing the television interests of tycoon-turned-politician Silvio Burlusconi - summoned the prime minister of Britain to check with his Italian counterpart whether such a move would be smiled upon.
