BACKGROUND

In November 1994, Eurostar was launched as a high-speed passenger service linking London to Brussels and Paris via the Channel Tunnel. The association between Eurotunnel, the company which owns the tunnel, and Eurostar was a mixed blessing. There was lots of free publicity, but Eurotunnel has been subjected to some fairly damaging press coverage. Within this context of confusion and negativity, the success of Eurostar is all the more remarkable.
