In November 1986 a first international seminar on television audience measurement was held in Tarrytown. New York, modelled to some extent on the highly successful international readership research symposia (at New Orleans, Montreal and Salzburg). Despite some organisational teething troubles, this proved very successful in the same way, creating an awareness of the amount of potentially shared experience around the world.
