Last month newspapers were printed in Fleet Street for the last time. It is a neat end to a decade of momentous change in the industry’s ownership, production methods and roster of titles.

The 1980s opened with a punch-drunk Times Newspapers returning from protracted suspension. Soon they were sold by the exhausted Ken Thomson to the impatient Rupert Murdoch. In mid-decade Wapping ended the printers’ long reign of terror. A band of new players stepped forward, eager to exploit the possibilities of profit this liberation...
