THE BRAND

Oral-B is a premium range of toothbrushes manufactured and distributed by Oral-B Laboratories. Originating in the USA, Oral-B is now owned by the Gillette Co.

The formation years 

The brand was launched in Australia in 1972.

In the 1970s the toothbrush category could be summed up as follows:

— No growth. — Commodity item. — Low price. — Low interest (by both trade and consumers). — Minimal promotion. — Dominated by Tek, a Johnson & Johnson brand with a 50% + market share.
