As the world's biggest manufacturer of smartphones and TV sets, and the maker of products from an 85-inch, ultra-high-definition televisions to devices with curved screens providing for an extended field of view, the Korean firm has safely left behind the "fast follower" tag regularly applied by industry-watchers as it initially strived to catch up with Apple.
